BLD: Los Angeles – Day 1

Los Angeles is chock full of food options. From cheap eats to fine dining, LA’s food scene is one-of-a-kind. Below is how I’d spend a full day in one of my favorite food places in the world.

As always, use each post to build your own food itinerary for BLD.

CITY: Los Angeles

Where to go: Poppy + Rose

Location: 765 Wall Street, Los Angeles CA 90014

Description: Tucked away in DTLA’s Flower District, Poppy + Rose serves up eggs benedicts, scrambles, pancakes, sandwiches, and more. Their biscuit + gravy, eggs plate was delish. The decor is sweet and understated. Let’s just say it’s a very calm place for breakfast.

Where to go: Han Bat Sulung Tang

Location: 4163 W 5th St, Los Angeles, CA 90020

Description: If you’re a sulung tang (Korean ox bone soup) fan, this is the place to go. It’s been around forever and is still a hole-in-the-wall amongst the now completely transformed Koreatown. OG Angelenos, including my parents, love this spot. Roy Choi also gave it a shout-out. Pro tip: pour some kkakdoogi (radish kimchi) juice into your sulung tang.

Where to go: Versailles

Location: 10319 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90034

Description: It’s still slightly difficult to travel to Cuba, though you can figure out a way. Until you make your way over there, go try some Cuban food at Versailles. They’re famous for their garlic chicken. Rice, beans, plantains. MMM.

Where to go: Salt & Straw

Location: Several locations throughout LA

Description: I know this is originally a Portland spot, but other ice cream places can’t compare to Salt & Straw. Not sure exactly what they do, but their ice cream is rich and not too sweet. Plus, you can order a half-n-half scoop: two flavors in one!
